インドネシアの伝統芸能と、そこで暮らす人々の生活を撮影するために通い続けて20余年。赤道直下の国インドネシアは、1万数千余りの島々が連なり、「エメラルドの首飾り」と呼ばれているほど、それぞれの島毎に珠玉の芸能文化があるが、とりわけジャワ島中部には王国が栄えた頃の文化が残っている。その中でも、特にワヤン・クリ（影絵人形芝居）は興味が尽きない。
その演目の骨子となっているインドの古代叙事詩「ラーマーヤナ」の物語は、様相を変えて、東南アジアの各地へ影絵人形芝居として伝承されているが、そのルーツは南インドのケララ州あたりといわれている。
インドネシアからカンボジア、そしてインドへ、その魅力的な影絵人形芝居と出会う旅をした。

I have been going there for more than 20 years to photograph the traditional performing arts of Indonesia and the lives of the people who live there. Indonesia, a country just below the equator, has more than 10,000 islands and is called an "emerald necklace." Each island has a gem of performing arts culture, but the kingdom is especially in central Java. The culture of the time when it prospered remains. Among them, Wayang Kuri (shadow puppet play) is particularly interesting.
The story of the ancient Indian epic "Ramayana", which is the essence of the performance, has been handed down to various parts of South India as a shadow puppet show, but its roots are said to be around the state of Kerala in South India.
I traveled from Indonesia to Cambodia to India to meet the charming shadow puppet show.
